That's more Akin to VoIP and it doesn't use your cellular number. You have to use PBX, or similar services.

The simplest app I use is hangouts. I'm unfamiliar with Akin. I've had no issues before, nor after Lollipop with Wi-Fi calling features. Maybe I'm lucky.

If you don't have an account with Tmobile they can't unlock the phone for you. Also the phone needs to show 40 days usage on a post paid planor a year or $100 in usage on a prepaid plan.
