Actually, it's the other carriers that can end up double-taxing you. In some states the carrier has to charge sales tax on a phone's MSRP even though they price it at a fraction of that. They then bundle the phone payments into the cost of the service, which gets taxed again by cellular service taxes which average around 15%. In some states, if you pay an ETF, you'll be taxed on that. With T-Mobile you are charged sales tax on the phone and cellular taxes on the service and there is no ETF. Much more transparent.
