Charging port not working after 6 months on S III

So...I finally gave up on the charging port on my Samsung S3 due to the in and out charging problems.  I have to hold my phone to keep it connected to the cable for it to continue to charge.  I decided to call customer service for a replacement on my phone after trying to buy my third usb cord for charging to no success.  I am still under the warranty.  Unfortunately, I was told I have to risk to pay $150 if they deemed the phone to be defective due to physical abuse.  My phone has no damage, no scratch but just a minor crack on the silver lining casing where the port area is, I am assuming this was due to my wiggling the cord attachment to the port every time it does not charge, I am quite certain that this phone was having trouble with charging without this minor 1mm crack on the case. I have been told by many that warranty people will always try to find something wrong with your phone to make you pay a fee for returning it, aside from the $20 fee i'm incurring, I might risk getting charge  $150.   I wanted to see if anyone has had this issue before and to those who returned it, were you charged for damages not related to the problem?  Of course, other than those phones who got wet and has obvious physical damage.  I am debating whether it was a mistake to return my phone or I would have been better off buying those wireless charger pads instead.  Shoot.  I even bought $8 insurance on the replacement because they would still send me a new S3 (which i now hate!) and I know I would have the same problem!. My husband's phone is the same and he is also having same issues.
