Still need a deposit for current customers?

So far I have been a T-Mobile customer for 18 months and I've been super satisfied with the service. When I first signed up I had to pay a deposit for my line which was fine because I didn't have any credit yet as a student, and I knew I'd be able to pay my bills. I kept my account in good standing with no problems at all and got that deposit back.

But today I was looking at maybe adding a tablet to my account with the $0 down and the free data for life and the system alerted me that I would need to pay another deposit if I added anything to my account. I also notice that if I go to shop around for device upgrades I am expected to put down a larger down-payment for my device, not getting any of the deals. I was just wondering when this will all stop.

As a current customer for 18 months, when will T-Mobile stop asking me for deposits or higher down-payments?

I've tried searching for the answer but I haven't read a straight answer about the deposits for current customers. (Some people say you need to be a customer for 2-years)
